This session examines the impact of this paradigm shift on all phases of performance improvement. It illustrates the power of this approach with examples, including an accomplishment-based educational model presented by Joe Harless, in his recently re-published book, The Eden Conspiracy. Nearly 20 years of implementation show the far-reaching technical and cultural implications of accomplishment-based educational design.
CULTIVATING EXCELLENCE: VITAL (AND USEFUL!) LESSONS FROM NATURE ABOUT PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENTIt’s easy to complain about increasing complexity and rapid change in the organizations we’re helping. But nature deals with those conditions all the time, with elegance and ease. So what lessons can we learn from living systems like ant colonies, rain forests and our bodies? It turns out: plenty. In contrast to the traditional view of organizations as machines, we’re increasingly recognizing them as dynamic, living ecosystems. With this understanding, we see that we can be more effective not as conductors but as cultivators of change, creating the fertile conditions for dramatically improved performance to emerge naturally and to be sustained over time. Through a small amount of science and plenty of client stories, Michelle Holliday will share what she’s learned over the past 15 years working with a view of organizations as living systems.
